World War One
Wednesday2nd & Thursday 24th July 2014 - Walk Starts at 6:30pm

Learn about the affect that WW1 had on the town and hear the stories of some of those who didn't return on this 21/2 hour walk around our beautiful town. This walk is designed to bring to life some of the names on our War Memorial and give a feel of how our town coped during the Great War. Stories of heroism and tragedy, stories that effected almost every street.

"Just to let you know that I thoroughly enjoyed the WW2 walk last night. The amount of facts that you have researched is amazing. I was completely ignorant at how important Godmanchester was at this time. I would recommend the walk to anyone who is interested, they will not be disappointed"

There will also be an opportunity to have a hands on experience with some finds from the Somme battlefield, giving an even more vivid feel of what life was like in the trenches.

"It was very informative and I think it showed an important side of the war that you don't often get to hear. We learnt lots of new things about the town and its people."

World War 2
Thursday 10th July 2014- Walk Starts at 6:30pm

So soon after the Great War came WW2, again the shadows of war hung over the country and once again picturesque Godmanchester played it's part in the mighty struggle, this walk pays tribute to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice and gives an insight into life in the town from 1939-1945. Men of Godmanchester fought and died in almost every theatre of war and it also saw the death of Thelma Cousins, our towns only women fatality during the two world conflicts.

"A great walk and I would recommended to anyone who missed it last year!"

"My son enjoyed the walk despite the rain. Thank you for organising this."

"Very informative, interesting and very well presented."

"Enjoyable and educational, even for someone who has only lived in the Town for 18 years!"

"Just to say thank you for the Godmanchester WW2 tour, it was really interesting and informative"
